UV light-curing resin is UV coatings, UV inks and UV adhesives is the main body of light-curing products, resin performance basically determines the main properties of the cured material, therefore, the selection and design of the resin is undoubtedly an important link in the formulation of light-curing products.
For free radical UV curing oligomer is mainly a variety of acrylic resins, such as epoxy acrylic resins, polyurethane acrylic resins, polyester acrylic resins, polyether acrylic resins, acrylic resins or vinyl resins. The most commonly used are epoxy acrylic resins, urethane acrylic resins and polyester acrylic resins. These three resins are briefly described below
Epoxy acrylics
Epoxy acrylic value is the most widely used and largest amount of light-curing oligomer. It is made from epoxy resins and (meth)acrylates. Epoxy acrylate according to its structure type can be divided into bisphenol A epoxy acrylate, phenolic epoxy acrylate, modified epoxy acrylate and epoxy acrylate, bisphenol A epoxy acrylate is the most widely used.
Bisphenol A epoxy acrylate is one of the fastest light curing oligomers. The cured films have high hardness, high gloss, excellent chemical resistance, good heat resistance and electrical properties. In addition, bisphenol A oxy-exchange acrylate has a simple raw material formula and is inexpensive. Therefore, it is commonly used as the main resin for light-curing paper, wood, plastic and metal coatings, and can also be used as light-curing inks and light-curing adhesives.
Polyurethane Acrylates
Polyurethane acrylate's main resin, polyurethane acrylate (PUA), is another important light-curing oligomer. It is synthesized by a two-step reaction of a polyisocyanate, a long-chain diol and a hydroxy acrylate. Due to the multiple structures of polyisocyanates and long chain diols, oligomers with set properties are synthesized by molecular design. As a result, they are the oligomers with the largest number of product brands available and are widely used in UV-curable coatings, inks and adhesives.
Polyester Acrylates
Polyester acrylates (PEA) are also common oligomers, which are synthesized from low molecular weight polyester diols via acrylates. Polyester acrylates are characterized by low price and low viscosity. Because of their low viscosity, polyester acrylates can be used as both oligomers and reactive diluents. In addition, most polyester acrylates have low odor, low irritation, good flexibility and pigment wettability for color coatings and inks. In order to improve the curing rate, multifunctional polyester acrylates can be prepared; amine-modified polyester acrylates can not only reduce the effect of oxygen blocking polymerization and improve the curing rate, but also improve adhesion, gloss and abrasion resistance.
